Sergon

(Filipino, b. 1945)

The work of modern and contemporary painter Sergon has been well received by the art world. His paintings combine Realist style and details, impressive technical ability, and an Impressionist atmosphere around specific subject matter, so that each one has a life of its own. His opulent gardens, powerful still lifes, Japanese Koi fish, and lovely, mysterious women garbed in richly colored Japanese kimonos show his skill and are highly prized. Sergon will not sign a canvas until he has created total harmony, and so his paintings have tranquility, and full, vibrant lines.

Sergon was born in Manila, in the Philippines, in 1945. He grew up with diverse cultural influences around him, including Chinese, Japanese, and South East Asian. His path as an artist took off when he won first place in a national painting competition, following which he was accepted at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. He later went on to attend the Scudia Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy.

Sergon has achieved international recognition for his work. He has represented the Philippines in international art shows in Australia and Spain. His paintings are in the collections of Mrs. Imelda R. Marcos, former First Lady of the Philippines, Uri Geller, and Gabe Kaplan, among others. They are also displayed in notable offices, including the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C.
