Georges Lambert

(French, 1919 - 1998)

Admired twentieth century artist Georges Lambert was an engraver, illustrator, and painter. His recurring subjects are landscapes, seascapes, and figure studies. He was born in Paris in 1919. He was a member of the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, a pupil of Post-Impressionist/Fauvist painter Othon Friesz, and became a leader of the Paris School. Lambert also contributed some of his original lithographs to illustrated books like Machiavelli's, The Prince. The artist had international exhibitions in many countries including Germany, Italy, France, England, and the United States. He maintained his workshop on the Rive Gauche from 1946 until his death in 1998.
